Week 6 – Realizations from Lafayette (APP)

To me: I had two big outcomes from the symposium to Lafayette. The first was opening my eyes to the multitude of projects going on and how they were structured. There was a lot of variety in topics and the choice of medium, and all of them were fascinating. One of the most interesting things I saw was the recreation of the baroque theatre in a digital space, with aminations to demonstrate how they changed scenes using a set of tools, and included in them, most notably, was Unity. I thought that this project was really interesting, exploring a historical topic in a gaming engine. I look forward to seeing their finalized product in the future.

The second outcome was the realization of what exactly I needed to do with my own project. I hadn’t felt nervous at all until I realized I actually had to present and found my main problem. I had very little content. I had all the information in my head but in terms of tangible, presentable content, I only had a scalar wireframe and a set of folders that I didn’t really want to spend time going through. Carrie helped me figure out how to present my information, and I managed to successfully convey what I wanted to do. The main point of this whole rant was: I NEED CONTENT. I’ve spent too long in the archives looking for things and I need to have actual content of my own to present. This is probably the most important thing I could have learned this week, and with only two weeks left until the presentation, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Side note: This week was the worst, with the least progress made. Had a mother of all headaches that basically made me unable to function. And I had it for five days. Happy 4th indeed. Ah well. At least I had Tylenol. It’s a godsend.
