The biggest challenge thus far has been narrowing down my topic in order to fit everything that I need within these 9 weeks. I started off wanting to look at sustainability in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami. I have realized that if I want to be as comprehensive with each city as I think the topic deserves, I need to limit the cities I do even further. I have decided to therefore continue with just New York City and Los Angeles, which will still be a great comparison coast to coast. Both cities have similar as well as unique issues, and comparing how they deal with those issues is very important. I think that I’ll definitely be adding more cities to this project in the future, but New York and Los Angeles are a good starting point for what could end up being a much larger project. Besides having to narrow my focus in terms of cities, there are also many decisions to be made about what specifically to cover. There is obviously a lot of information out there because LA and NYC are two major cities, and so I have made a specific list of what exactly I want to highlight in my analysis of each city. It has been really helpful keeping in mind what exactly I want to show, and what questions I want to answer. I have definitely learned a lot about how to navigate lots of information in order to create the kind of project I want.
