Week 6 Blog

The trip to Lafayette was super helpful despite also being super tiring and having a lot happening in one small room! Being able to explain to a new audience what my project was about helped me realize what kinds of things I need to add and clarify in my project. Having an opening on what sustainability is will be very important for my website, which I realized after one student asked me what sustainability was and I didn’t have a simple one sentence answer! (Although maybe my answer wasn’t so clear since I was starting to mentally drift off by that point in the afternoon, yikes!!) I also realized that some of my mapping visuals should be made a bit more clear and easy to follow- (I’ll definitely need to change some color schemes and add some text underneath the maps to explain what is being shown in my final website).  I think it would also be good if I could narrow down my sustainability timeline of LA a bit more in order to be more concise. It was really nice to get some feedback and validity on the purpose of the project and it’s aims at raising awareness for sustainability overall. I had a great conversation with two students who have lived/spent some time in Copenhagen, which is basically a model city when it comes to sustainability, and they really liked my goals for this project which was super awesome. We talked a lot about how cities like Copenhagen have a whole different way of life that easily promotes sustainability, and we agreed that we could do a lot better by cities in the U.S.. That really hit home, and made me further realize the importance of my project and what I need to emphasis with the information going forward. Overall, a really helpful trip, and the ice cream at the end was much needed and amazing!!
